Hey, this probably doesn't come as much as a surprise to you because let's face it, ankle boots are a staple in most fashion lover's wardrobes. They are a fantastic style of footwear that never seems to go out of fashion. I was wearing them in the 80s, 90s, noughties, and 10s (darn it, I just realised I'm a bit old now!).

However, finding your perfect pair of ankle boots this season isn't as straightforward as you might imagine. There are just so many different options out there, from Mustang boots to desert boots, welly boots to moon boots- how are you supposed to choose between them? 

Ankle boots are a perfect Choice of footwear for this time of year. They allow you to make the transition between summer and winter that little bit easier. There were also great at the end of winter and the beginning of spring. In this regard, ankle boots are pretty much and all season shoe. The only exception would be if we continue to have summers like the one we've just had- that heatwave was exceptional, wasn't it?

A great rule of thumb is to look to the fashionista and the fashion shows.  We have seen a great number of ankle boots stomping down the runway this season.  We have seen a return of the more masculine boots combined with feminine clothes, such as the Caterpillar/leggings look and in particular a strong Army theme. They're definitely supposed to be a little more masculine this year.

So, what are some twists that you can add this year to make your ankle boots that little bit edgier and more fashionable?

Slim boots with a lace:  When you see a pair, of laced ankle boots you realise how rare they are and how uncommon it is to see ankle boots with laces.  However, they have been all the rage on the runways this year.  A fantastic choice for those of you who want to dress a little bit more sophisticated than that you do already.

Kitten heels: this is probably more a star with which we are familiar. Kitten heel ankle boots have been around for quite a while now in terms of their popularity (of course, they never disappear completely).  Personally, oh I find them great because they can add a little bit of height and make my legs look slimmer, but they're easy to walk in. I'm one of those girls that has never managed to walk in office stiletto heels. It's just not something that I can do, but kitten heels are fine.

Flat ankle boots in a chunky style:  Almost as if there are two opposite Styles competing for the fashion top spot this year, you'll find many flat ankle boots that have a chunky style, such as the Mustang boots womens range.
